Best Web Hosts?

Currently with Bluehost (on their Cloud Server packge) but wondering what other people use?

My UK agent keeps an eye on the downtime of our UK store and says it's down a lot :(

Also had to restore some files the other week and the Bluehost Backup wasn't great (files missing in two separate backups).

So my needs are:

1. Speed and Low Down time

2. Back Up and Restore feature that is very reliable (100% data integrity)

3. Great Customer Service - 24/7, available by Chat or Email

4. Friendly user interface with Cpanel

Hmm, what else?

Everything with hosting is relative to price range. Like our server we use for our company, it has a backups on the machine and also a backup that goes to a cloud machine in the datacenter so we can failover if needed. It has virtually no downtime because we are the only people on the machine, so we do not have to worry about other sites dragging the resources down. We pay $270 a month for that though. So I think best bet would be to put a price range and let people work within that to recommend a host. We have a company we recommend for dedicated servers, a different company for VPS's, and another one for shared accounts.

I would recommend A2 for shared. I don't like anything that has cloud in it for hosting generally. I am pretty sure that Bluehost cloud uses nginx, which quite honestly is a pain of you cannot purge the cache. Don't get the A2 turbo plan though, they use litespeed which is equally as bad.

HI Dh42, thank you for your insight, I appreciate it very much! Bluehost Cloud Shared Hosting uses Varnish Caching as I discovered when I was having weird caching issues occurring on my websites (LIVE and Prestashop stores under construction). I CAN clear the Varnish Cache myself, through my Bluehost account, and they said once a week should be sufficient. Honestly, I wouldn't even look to change hosts if my UK agent wasn't reporting a lot of down time. I don't know what 'a lot' is, I guess I just expect SOME down-time with most/all web hosts. Perhaps I could attach the down-time reports here and see what you think?

ETA: I've attached the latest report he's sent me :)

I've only been on Bluehost's Cloud Sever for about 1.5 months. Ironically I went onto the Cloud because of the down-time my UK agent was reporting and when I reported it to Bluehost, the Cloud was what they recommend!! LOL At the time I swapped, I asked if I could switch back easily and they said yes so perhaps that is what I should do?

when picking shared, make sure it supports mod_expires and mod_deflate.  Many shared will not support one or the other or worse yet both so you will go to vps.  I like idea dh42 on A2, they actually support PrestaShop which is not 'word press' (varnish lol), and having a hosting that knows ps configuration will make life 'much' easier.  also before moving to new host make sure to first do test, install a fresh copy of ps, as ps will check configuration and let you know if any obvious issues.

mod_expires and mod_deflate

what are these and what do they do? lol

I decided to stay with Bluehost and 'down graded' back to what I was on before - Business Pro Shared Hosting (non Cloud)
