Extremely Slow backend

Hi guys, I've been running prestshop on our own servers for ages. We notice that sometimes (today for example) the backend only (admin areas) of prestashop are extremely slow, i mean about 2 minutes to load a page. However our store in the front runs super fast.

 

I have read that there are some modules that connect back to prestashop. Currently the management of the server is unusable. A full reboot of the system does not solve the issue. The server load is tiny, as prestashop is the only site running on the dedicated VM.

 

What connections are set up between prestashop servers and prestashop installations?

Is there a way to disable these/or check them??

 

If this cant be fixed we need to look at another store solution.
