ishi
I have been pulling my hair out trying to upgrade a website from V 1.4.5.1 to 1.6.1 I'm so sick of the struggle. Can I do a fresh install and import old customer, order, product information from the old database or is the structure too different? What is my best option at this point? RuthMoore
I think you should do a fresh install and import data from the old database by Prestashop migration tool.
musicmaster
I have been pulling my hair out trying to upgrade a website from V 1.4.5.1 to 1.6.1 Did you switch off all non-Prestashop modules and switch back to the default theme? Trying to run PS 1.5 or 1.6 with an 1.4 theme is a recipe for problems. There is also a free tool for copying data. But it is bound to be more work than one of the migration tools from Prestashop Addons: https://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/445453-copy-shopdata-script-for-copying-shop-content-for-upgrade/
ishi
I think you should do a fresh install and import data from the old database by Prestashop migration tool. Ruthmoore can you tell me why you feel this way? Have you gone through this process?
RuthMoore
Hi ishi. That's my experience. I was failed to upgrade my PS store (and I don't really know why ). After do some research on Google, I decide to use PS migration tool (paid module from LitExtension). Quite easy and very fast, I have a fresh PS site! ableier
Hi RuthMoore, Could you expand on your experience? I too had a failed upgrade about six months ago running 1.6.0, the day before public launch! I frantically restored the site from a backup, but everything wasn't quite correct (It actually seems to fall somewhere between 1.6.1 and 1.6.0!?). Lately, I've been having more and more strange issues and bugs. I'm weary of trying to upgrade again and would like to build a fresh site and replace the old. Here's my thought process, as the live site is a subfolder of the main url (lets use www.mainsite.com/prestashop1): Create fresh install at www.mainsite.com/prestashop2 Once finished, rename both folders, so prestashop2 becomes the same URL as the original prestashop1 site. Use a migration tool to import all data, images etc, from databases... or can I just "point" the new site to the old databases? I'm not really confident that simply renaming the folders is the right way to go? Any insight into your situation would be great. Thank you. RuthMoore
Hi ableier. Just "point" the new site to the old databases will not work. That's not the way we can upgrade a website. My process is (as you thought): - Create fresh install. - Use a migration tool to import all data, images etc, from old site (databases) to new site. - Switch new site to main URL. This way, we only transfer data to new database. Still have there a lot of works on design, theme, modules...
