where did cart & sitemap text go to?

Hi,

I did something and now the cart and sitemap text links at the top right corner have disappeared. Can someone please tell me how to get them back?

I have the "cart block" and the "mail alerts" hooked into the "header of pages" but nothing is showing up.

Ok I just found the correct names to get the cart and sitemap links in the "top of pages" section but am still not understanding when you hook a "block" into the "header of pages" it does not show up.
