MaartenPol
Is there any way to duplicate a category and it's subcategories? Maybe even with taking over the consisting products. I want to make a menu list for different brands, but with the same subcategories. Thx
rocky
There is no option in Prestashop to duplicate categories, only to duplicate an individual product. The easiest way to duplicate categories and subcategories would be to use the CSV import tool. That way, you can simply copy and paste the categories and subcategories in Excel or whatever editor you use.
MaartenPol
Thanks for the info. I guess that's the fastest way
Sundar
When we import the Product with different category, what happen to the images? Whether I have to upload seprate image ? How about the attribute
rocky
As long as the product ID is the same, the attributes and images will be preserved. There is no need to reimport.

I would have though this was popular and needed feature. If not copying, Is there a way to "link" a category or subcategory to another one?Is the CSV import tool done in the phpadmin or is there a feature in the back end? Thanks! rocky
No, categories can only have one parent. You can't link a category and its subcategories to multiple parent categories. I don't understand why you would want to do that though, unless you are trying to use the categories block in place of a filter module.
berta recchia
I don't understand why you would want to do that though. Let's say I have 10 categories of shoes. Each category has a subcategory, "accessories".Now let's say I now have another subcategory, "shoe laces" that can can be used on 8 of these shoe types but not the other 2 shoe type that use velcro.Instead of creating 8 new subcategory, one under each shoe type, and one by one copy each type of shoe laces in each subcategory, it would be nice to just copy the whole subcategory or link it all the show type that can use those shoe laces.Am I making sense? Thanks. rocky
I think CSV import is your easiest option. You must create a file using Excel or OpenOffice with the following columns:ID;Name;Parent Category ID2;Category 2;1This will create a category called "Category 2" with the "Home" category as the parent category. You can create as many rows as needed for your categories. You should then export the spreadsheet as a CSV file with ; as the separator, then go to Tools > Import in the Back Office to upload the CSV file, then import the file by matching up the columns. You can link a product to multiple categories in a similar way.
