Changing Schema of URLS makes products redirect to homepage

Hi, 

 

I've recently changed the schema of the URL for products to be {rewrite} instead of {category}/{rewrite}, so the URL is mydomain.com/productname. 

 

I have friendly URLS on and mod_rewrite is running however, when I click on a product, it redirects to the homepage. If i change the schema back to {category}/{rewrite}, it works fine.

 

Anyone know what may be causing this and how to fix so we can still have url as mydomain.com/productname?
