carlmcse
Hi all, I am new here. I have looked over the forum for a solution for this but the 2 I have read do not work, so I guess this is a new issue. I am having problems adding categories. What happens is, I create a new sub category under Home, lets say electronics. And under this sub category 17 more sub categories. Everything creates fine but when viewing the site map, nothing is under Home. It's like nothing has been created. Even on the website there is no categories at the Home level. It's really annoying me now as I have tried everything I can with this. Any suggestions on what it could be or what I have missed?
rocky
Most likely, there is a Javascript error on your site that is preventing the categories from displaying. In IE, check whether it says "Done, but with errors" in the bottom-left corner. If it does, click on the icon to display the errors and post the errors here. carlmcse
Hi, no there are no errors upon loading the site. Neither are there errors in admin, so not javascript.
rocky
Can you provide a link to your site? It is usually a Javascript error. The only other possible thing I can think of is that the categories access in the customer group is missing. Otherwise, I can't help any further. carlmcse
Well I am constructing the site at the moment and it would be unprofessional to let it go live. However I will let it go live for about 30 mins from now. www.crazyukdeals.net

rocky
I can confirm that there are no Javascript errors. I see only one category "USB FlashDrive 32GB Twister - Bulk" that doesn't have any subcategories or products. I see also that you are using Prestashop v1.3 RC2. carlmcse
Correct. I kept this there as an example category to check out the structure and see why the other category was not displaying. Have tried to set up group access like you said but dont know where in admin it is. Have no idea why it is not displaying, the sql code for categories is at level one Home category as it should be the same as the USB item category. The USB item category should not be there really as it is not a catagory it is just an example to help resolve the issue.
rocky
You need to go to the Catalog tab and click the Edit button in the Actions column next to a category. Then make sure that under "Groups access" that "Default" is ticked.
carlmcse
ok just tried it,does not do anything. Should I reinstall. If so how can I get my category data to my hard disk so I dont have to recreate the categories again.
rocky
How did you add the categories originally? Did you use the CSV import tool or did you add the categories manually using the Back Office. Did you upgrade from an earlier version of Prestashop? If there are errors in the categories table, reinstalling and then copying the categories tables will also copy the errors, which would make reinstalling pointless. It is the ps_category_group table you should be looking at. If it is missing entries, then the categories will not display. The table should list every category and the number 1 for the default group.

rocky
Not enough information. Make sure that (3218, 1), (3219, 1), ..., (3234, 1), (3235, 1) is in that table.
carlmcse
Thanks alot you solved it. Would I have to do this everytime I add categories, or will this be ok now. It's not a problem to do it but would take a little longer to do it. Your a great guy I bow down to you oh superior one
rocky
Glad I could help. If your issue is solved, please edit your first post and add [sOLVED] to the front of the title. You shouldn't have to manually add entries to the database every time you add categories. Adding categories through the Back Office or the CSV import tool should automatically add these entries to the ps_category_group table. I don't understand why they weren't added on your site. Perhaps a failed upgrade from an earlier version of Prestashop or a failed CSV import caused the problem.
