Old upgrade 1.5.4.0 to 1.6.1.4 very slow

Hi,

We really have troubles with our latest upgrade.

We come from 1.3.7.0
But our live 1.5.4.0 is good and fast, no real problems with.
But we needed a better mobile template, so we upgraded.

But this 1.6.1.4 is really slow.
We already tried with nearly no modules at all, it was better but still not happy with,
memcached was an improvement to, but has other problems with caching.

So we truly don't know it no more.

Any help is welcome !

I'd check that the back office-->advanced parms-->performance is configured for max performance, ii.e. smart cache enabled, CCC  of js/css and js bottom

 

also it's very common for one to upgrade ps but on old hosting.  the hosting we started with for old shop was fine but now it's probably a bit dated.
