Static Front page?

Ran a report yesterday from one of the members in heres website.

 

and recommendations are that the front page needs to be 2000 words, and that i have way too many images on front page (missing alt tags and such as well)

 

Would it be advisable to make a static front page to get that first page more seo friendly?

Hello.

You can change your homepage. For it to be static you need to edit tpl files in your theme, set the conditions under which hooks will not be displayed on your homepage.

To be honest that report is not geared for ecommerce sites with image heavy front pages. You do need a good chunk of text on the page for the bots to chew through, but you should definitely put text content in the alt tags as you can be quite descriptive with that (16 words approx max). The keyword you used was quite broad and you would be better to try ranking that term with a geographic modifier on it - for example [keyword] gifts Manchester as then you could get local pickups looking to save on postage, then build out from there.

Thanks, is there actually a way to alter alt tags now the images are uploaded or would it be a matter of having to reupload the images (im probably missing something simple somewhere!!!)
