First steps/improvements while installing

I'm a expecienced php developer and used to develop my shops on my own, however with this it is impossible to get the same featureset as prestashop.

When installing a new webshop I always had a 10 step plan setting certain things right. I just want to know what experienced shop developers would do first when setting up a shop.

E.g. I always set up the pretty urls working with .htaccess, getting the admin working on a subdomain and not /adminXXX, serving the assets from a subdomain or from an cdn and installing languages.

What are the first steps you take when you set up a new shop?
