"Hack attempt" - why give a generic error such a fear inducing name?

Recommended Posts

After reading around on the forum today I realized that "hack attempt" (which I'm sure almost everyone has encountered at least a few times) doesn't really mean a hack attempt - it's just a generic error message.

Who's bright idea was this?! Why would you want to scare the pants off a customer for something that could be relatively trivial?

While I agree it's not the best choice, especially without more details, the hack they are talking about is of the data that is passed around.
If Prestashop is expecting a field to be all numbers, and it encounters letters, it means that someone had manually changed (or "hacked") a value.
