Change things without the use of a module?

Hello All
I want to edit things on my site without the modules.
Some modules dont work like i want them to work,so i want to just use codes.
Or edit some of the modules to make them better for my use.

The thing is there are too little info about some of the modules,sometimes its easyer to find a code tutorial on the internet and copy past the code without any module.

example:::: made swf file and html file want to upload them to website,was done by sotwadds,but it only uploads the swf or the html and not both so a html file wil not work on this module.
This process is a pice of cake normaly,but with prestashop it took me about 4 h to set it propper up and still not working with html.(had to use module instead of just simply upload the files to the website)Because i did not know where to upload the files............

Here are some of the thigs i want to know.....
I Have made my own carusel(flash) and i want to use a movie in the diffrent product catogeries,this is alot of flash movies to add to my site.Got it working on my home screen with help of sotewadds but now i want to do the same in every category.

I want to have multi news feed on my website,i use the feed block now but only with a english feed.
It should only be a small edit if you ask me,home text editor has it working so it must be able to get it working with this module aswell.

And i got some final questions about prestashop.......
If i want to edit my site with just the help of codes,can i then turn to a website forum and get help with this????
I mean a forum like w3schools.com can they help me edit my site on the normal way of editing a site.
Or do they need to uderstand prestashop to be able to help me edit my site?

Prestashops works with modules and Hooks to make it more "modular". Now you dont want that, but use your own stuff.
Thats ok, but it will take a lot of work to make it happen. Basically you are reworking PS and take out functionality.
Carousell are alreadt available as JQuery plugins, that are easier and costs less resources on your site.

It is possible to add your own codes to all the templates files, but since you want for every category a different flash intro, it might be a lot of work.

so maybe you should try to see first what functionaility PS offers and work with that, otherwise you might spend too much time on changing things.
And maybe another shop software is better suited for you?

So what you say is im better of making modules istead of manual enter the codes for my site?
I did think it would take me longer to make a whole modul than to change things with codes.

Rocky showed me how to add a icon on my RSS text bar,this is a very smal change if you ask me.
Simple for evry 1 to do with the help of codes.I dont mind making a module,and edit the module to my needs.
And your taliking about reworking PS and take out functionality(its actual add functions)
I cant understand this part,why?

Here i will make a example maybe im not that good with showing what i want.

Apple------------------when i click on this catogory i want a swf in the picture block(change the jpg to swf)
Playstation------------The block is here since i can add pictures so why cant i add swf??
Nintendo-------------- I have 5 main product groups and i want a swf in them all(5 swf movies in total)
(only want swf in the 5 main product categories)

The standard product picture block (black theme) 500x150,I cant understand the big problem to just add the swf here
with a module or codes.
Since i can easy add pictures here is there not a way to edit it??.

If this should be too mutch work for me to change then i guess ill drop the swf and do the rest via photoshop.

For me this lseems like a small change,please correct me if its NOT.
I have limited coding skills,so if i take this editing to easy please fill me in,im just trying to think logic!!

PS:To change e-cmommerce system now would be a wast of time,since i have spend far too mutch time to learn about prestashop.
And i do think prestashop is a fantastic product,but with the thinnest manual ever.

hi all, i was also looking for subcategory image display and landed here somehow. As everyone said and accepted, Prestashop is a fantastic product. Making our own code for a small change is not advisable(personal view) coz when prestashop update to the next level, again it will be a big headache for the individual coder. if we follow the modules and write according to it, it will make our work easy, and standard one. also if everything goes good, you can start creating your own modules for any thing you like. Once you are done, you can also sell the module, or openly distribute it.

After alot of searching i allsow found the last link you send and have been reading and trying abit.
But the 2 other links i did not find and i will read them aswell.

Help like this is just what i need,i dont need to have everything handed on a plate.
A small reply like this with a link and abit info on what to focus on is more than enough for me.
Or a simple reply as this::Go to w3shools read about php,and,and,and after you know this you can make your own module(or edit themes)

After reading about modules i found out i need to read up on abit of stuff,here is what i found so far please help me with additional things to read about(smarty,hooks).

Finaly im getting some where after 3 days of searching.
I will try to start on the modules asap,but first i got some reading to do(learn the basic).
If i cant get my module to work i wil for sure send you a PM,and maybe get a advice from you on the coding.
