Receiving goods in the EU from overseas, when not an EU resident

I have a question which seems a bit hard to find a reply to:

For the time being, I am in Spain (for 7 weeks). I need a camera while I am here and have ordered one to come from the US.
However, I am a resident for tax purposes in Australia.

Before my camera will be handed out to me in Spain, I will have to pay 270 Euros tax and duties in Spain. Fedex is handling this. But I should not pay this money, as I reside outside of the EU (and will probably be charged GST for the camera on return to Australia).

How do I make sure that I on departure can have the Spanish tax and duties amount back? Customs are very hard to talk to, and their web sites are in Spanish. Phone numbers I obtain when trying to call them are constantly blocked.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards
Laura West

The best thing Laura is to have Fedex send it onto Australia and you pay some tax there but probaly a lot less than in Spain.
