Getting Started With Themes

Hello,

I have been working with PrestaShop for a while and I'm fairly familiar with it. I've decided I'd like to start building some themes but I haven't been able to find much information about how to approach this.

 

Would someone be able to provide an overview of what a theme generally contains? What do I need to keep in mind when creating a theme? How does the relationship between the the and modules work? Is it important to provide CSS to style all of the core modules? Do themes generally add functionality?

I'm not really looking for a technical explanation, as I'm already comfortable with this. I'm looking for more of an explanation of how themes are packaged. What sort of things I should be looking to include and any tips that will help me avoid making common errors.
