What Happens When I Cancel An Order ?

Hello guys.

 

I am running version 1.6.1.2

 

If someone place and order I assume that the items are deducted from the stock.

What happens if the customer is not paying for the order (in advance) and I cancel it, will the items then be added to the stock again automaticly or do I need to update the stock manually ?
