Do We Need To 301 Redirect To Canonical Url On Ps 1.6 Or It Happens Automatically?

Hello everybody,

      I´ve just read an article talking about how important is to redirect you shop´s url (example.com) to the canonical url (www.example.com) using 301 redirect. In ps 1.6 do we have to do this ourselves in the .htaccess file or it happens automatically if configured in the BO-preferences/seo/Redirect to the canonical URL?

 

About when modifying the url of pages? (redirection occurs anyhow since we can change the url of lets say a product or cms page, but the page´s id number doesn´t change (if you havent installed a module to shorten url)?

It should happen automatically. If not, my seo booster has a canonical tag option
