Updated From 1.5 To 1.6 Not Showing Sub Categories

hi

 

i copied my site which is using 1.5.6.0 to a sub domain and updated to 1.6.1.4 so that i can fiddle around with a new theme.

 

But i have the following problem the sub categories and category description do not show on the new site.

 

In the theme module it is marked as show sub categories, i have cleared cache but it stil isn't showing;

I see subcategories. Just the description is missing. It is about the theme. Looks like a feature, not bug.
