Disabling An Attribute: Is It Possible?

Hello everybody,

I need to disable the availability of a particular material for a certain period.

 

is it possible to disable an attribute instead of deleting it?

 

So that when I'll be asked to make it available again, I will turn it on again and I won't have to add the combinations material/color  for every product?

 

If not, could someone explain me which query I could do in the dab to set all the availability of this material to 0?
