Default images, alt texts

For some reason the new products block shows the image alt texts always in shop's default language, has anybody else noticed it? Probably there is simple solution for this. Also the 2 images in best sellers block have no alt texts at all.

Another question is the default images. There are images named like en-default-home, en-default-medium etc in img/p category but when there is image missing it still uses the 404.gif image. What are these default images there for?

I imported new products and there was something wrong with the image paths so the product list was looking really horrible as the 404 image is some 400 px.
