LondonDragon
Hi everyone, Just a quick one, what is the path for upgrading from 1.4.7 to the latest 1.6 version? Also I have moved the site to a local server to test the upgrade process before testing it on the live site, but when I go to the 192.168.1.xx URL it redirects to the domain of the site so to the live site, how do I prevent that from happening and remain on the 192.x.x.x site? Guest
for you 2nd question: - check/regenerate your htaccess file - in database you might have to check ps_configuration -> PS_SHOP_DOMAIN and PS_SHOP_DOMAIN_SSL - maybe cache needs to be cleaned manually because of the physical move make backups of everything before upgrading please
LondonDragon
Many thanks, managed to get it working locally, but the theme is all messed up after the upgrade to 1.6.1 using the 1-click upgrade, tried a few different ones but its still all jumbled. Is there a way to just reset the theme to the 1.6.1 theme? Just restore the layout? Thanks Also all the images are missing? When I try to generate the thumbnails says files don't exist in location? Guest
If your theme is based on the default theme then I' assuming as there are many changes to the default theme between those versions that you're going to have to port your design to this new default theme. Well that's the only way I know how to at least but it's a lot of work. If your theme is standalone then it depends on how it was built and whether the developer has any updates on offer. edit: images, I have no idea. Is it possible to copy them from a backup manually maybe? Edited December 2, 2015 by Guest (see edit history)
LondonDragon
Theme was originally based on default, but like you say many changes later, I am just wondering if there is a way to just revert to default of the current update and then modify it again to suit my needs? Not very familiar with changing themes, tried a couple of themes but non look rigth, I assume if because of some addons. I have a look at the image path and looked at the live server and the files don't exist on the live server so not sure why the upgrade has changed the path of the files, seems strange to me. Many thanks Edited December 2, 2015 by LondonDragon (see edit history)
Guest
Yeah you can compare the default theme with your current theme: start by adding missing files and test that. You could also just go page by page and try to fix every style issue like that and look in default theme for clues. Turn on error reporting from time to time in defines.inc.php to verify all errors, then go after those errors if any exist. do you have a backup somewhere? if not might be easier to just reupload each product image via admin backend. It might be a few days work though :| I have to upgrade soon, i'm going to make 9000 backups first
LondonDragon
Yeah need to check it in more detail, was not the person that installed it originally so not 100% sure what was done and modified Also there are 519 images with errors Off course have backups and testing it offline also, so not to break the shop that is currently running Many thanks
Guest
The best thing to do is try the manual update process. http://doc.prestashop.com/display/PS16/Manual+update
LondonDragon
Was thinking trying the manual process next, the 1-click upgrade is not working as expected. It looks like the upgrade changes the path to the images and also changes the directory structure, but the database paths do not match the directly structure and looks like all images are either linked incorrectly or are missing all together after the upgrade. Also all image files have been renamed. Seems to be more people with the same issues: https://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/487846-upgrade-from-14-to-16-image-url-to-be-like-14-external-image-link-not-working/ https://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/487197-upgrading-images-not-found/
Guest
I think there might be need for a forge ticket if this seems to be a recurring issue for many people. The manual upgrade procedure is deprecated, the 1-click upgrade doesn't work. I'm really wondering in which version this was changed and how people upgraded back then. LondonDragon
Attempted the manual process twice now and that also fails, doesn't even upgrade, fails and get a lot of xml code. I did try upgrading using the one click to 1.4.11 but that also has issues. Edited December 4, 2015 by LondonDragon (see edit history)
LondonDragon
Well I have managed to manually upgrade from 1.4.7.0 all the way to 1.4.11.1 without breaking the site. After that it won't let me do a manual upgrade to 1.5.x says I need to use the 1-click tool, if I use that the only option I have is to upgrade to 1.6.1.3 and that has the same problems has before Now stuck on this upgrade. frigging nightmare! Its weird behaviour, lets take the same image on 1.4 and 1.6: path on 1.4 : http://domain/img/p/43-[spam-filter]large.jpg path on 1.6 : http://domain/img/p/9/1/[spam-filter]large.jpg When I look on the img/p folder, folder 9 doesn't exist. Must be a way to resolve this? cheers

bellini13
Thanks, so what is the process of upgrading to the latest version? Didn't you already answer your own question? As stated above: the 1-click upgrade doesn't work + he wants the latest version. So how can he upgrade? There's only one way: migrate all the data from one to the other. El Patron
Thanks, so what is the process of upgrading to the latest version? I auto upgrade to 1.4.1.11 then immediately auto upgrade to latest stable of 1.6 so I do a two step auto upgrade for 1.4 shops then if you reach this point you can 1) configure the default theme to your liking or 2) buy a 'high' quality theme and configure. In all honesty there is little reason to upgrade unless we also achieve a cool new look to our front office. I recommend Leo themes but there are plenty of other quality developers of themes. Note: installing/configuring a new theme (if you buy new theme, make sure you can install on localhost or a subdomain of remote the demo shop). Most themes will come with two types of downloads, the theme and the theme already installed on a ps (demo). Get the demo working so you can see how they configured it, then you have a better idea of how to configure on your shop. Hope this helps, happy day, el

After that it won't let me do a manual upgrade to 1.5.x says I need to use the 1-click tool, if I use that the only option I have is to upgrade to 1.6.1.3 and that has the same problems has before Specifically "can't do manual upgrade", "I have to use 1-click tool". He doesn't say the 1-click module does not work. To summarize. He manually upgraded to PS v1.4.11.1. He wants to upgrade to the latest version, which is PS v1.6.1.3. And he said... if I use that the only option I have is to upgrade to 1.6.1.3 So what exactly is the issue here?

LondonDragon
Thanks for the replies, but yes no one seems to have read what I actually wrote. 1-click upgrade from 1.4.7.0 to 1.4.11.1 did not work. I had to perform manual upgrade 1.4.7.0 -> 1.4.7.2 -> 1.4.8.2 -> 1.4.9.0 -> 1.4.11.1 Only way I got to version 1.4.11.1 without messing up the images, after that it always messes up the images, was not expecting the theme to carry on working but not to loose all the images too. Upgrading to latest 1.6 using the 1-click tool causes me to loose all the images. Its weird behaviour, lets take the same image on 1.4 and 1.6: path on 1.4 : http://domain/img/p/43-[spam-filter]large.jpg path on 1.6 : http://domain/img/p/9/1/[spam-filter]large.jpg When I look on the img/p folder, folder 9 doesn't exist. bellini13
So the structure of images was changed from storing all the images under /img/p to storing them all within subfolders. The reason for this was to get around certain file system limitations, especially on shared hosting, where some hosts would place a limit on the number of files that can exist in a single folder. This is a known issue and pretty well discussed on the forums at the time. I'm sure if you spent a few minutes doing a search you would have found it and the solution... but fine, I'll do some work for you... In PS v1.4.11.1, go to the back office Images page, where you would regenerate images. Look for an option to "Move Images" and execute that. That should result in moving your images from the old structure to the new structure. Once that is complete, then perform the auto upgrade to PS v1.6.1.3, and your images issue will be resolved. As for the theme, I have never seen an upgrade complete without the default theme being messed up. It seems the autoupgrade module just does not know how to properly re-add module positions. What I typically do is the following 1) Install a fresh PS v1.6.1.3 installation 2) Export the default theme from the back office to a zip file, and rename the theme to something unique, not "default-bootstrap" since that would already exist in your upgraded store 3) Add this theme to your upgraded store 4) Enable that theme. This should properly enable required modules and reset positions 5) Now enable your original default-bootstrap theme, or install a custom/third party theme
