ONE.com issues

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else use one.com????

We signed up multiple domains to them mainly because they were cheap, but also because they hyped themselves up about uptime (99.99%) amongst other things.

I am constantly finding my site runs really really really slow with them (avg page load time is 3.9 seconds according to google) and I know if I were a customer I'd click away from a slow site immediately.

The site is also constantly unreachable, 3 times in the past few days whilst I've been online, and I'm sure it happens when I'm offline also!

I find their support a joke, the online chat operators are useless and often cheeky or rude and the second level "support" is rubbish. When asked about theses issues above they replied...

"We had recent issues with our servers and they had been fixed already.
We have just checked your website using both IE and Firefox and both of
them loaded your website in two seconds. Can you please advise us what
other issues you are faced with your website?"

To me this is a joke! They checked it at 3.46AM for a start and even 2 seconds seems very long for page load time!

Can anyone advise as to what to do to sort this out?

Is anyone else with one.com and having the same issues? Did you get it resolved or are they treating you badly too?

If anyone is getting a bad service can they please email me via here or to [email protected] and tell me the issues and a list of domains they have with one.com. The more responses we get the stronger my case will be to one.com.

This is all costing me money, losing me customers and wasting my time. Should I sue them??

Move away, fast, is the only way to deal with poor hosts.

Every host operator boasts 99.9% uptime, and the simple rule I follow is always register your domains via a 3rd party service that allows nameserver/DNS changes, so if your hosts are rubbish, you can change within the day (depending on the complexity of your site).

Hi Celeborn,

thanks for the quick reply.

Who do you recommend?

Is it hard to move everything? Or is it just a matter of copying everything from the current host via ftp to my hard drive then uploading it to the new host? Will I lose the database?

Do you think I'd be better paying someone to implement the move?

As I said, it depends on how complex the website is.

As far as swapping servers using with a standard flat html/php main site and a Prestashop install, it is fairly easy. Anything else, you just need to check on the dependencies i.e. is it using some sort of custom php module you've install, or sql table somewhere.

I use easyspace.com dedicated servers in the UK, and 123-reg.co.uk for my domain name management. Not had a complaint about either in 6/7 years.

See above thread for advice on moving Prestashop to new servers!

I would recommend using NSDesign - I've used this company for about 6 years and run 6 different types of websites. What I've noticed about this company is the support. If something doesn't function properly you file a ticket and can expect a response within the hour (and usually a fix), or further questions about the problem. The company also recently helped me install 2 CMS systems (modx) and Prestashop. Easy to use Control Panel for either Windows or Linux. My sites all run exceptionally fast. Not had much downtime in all the time I've used them apart from a fire which destroyed their servers - but was quickly replaced! The staff are very knowledgeable.

So, highly recommended from me.

Hi, I use a company called Vidahost, you will not find a better service anywhere than from these guys answers to your questions within about 15 mins. They have UK based servers with no downtime at all, I have never noticed on my site in the last 18 months. Check them out click my signature and speak to Dominic or Seb who will help you in any way.

Regards,

Mark.
