Is there a possibility of malware for themes/modules on the Prestashop Marketplace?

I've looked all over and couldn't find an answer on this.  Does Prestashop do any check for malware on themes and modules on the official Prestashop Marketplace?  Do modules ship with full source code?  If a theme had malware on it then what kind of damage could be done?  Could the control panel be taken over?

 

I'm new to this and just downloaded a theme which had a ton of JS files.  I don't want to spend the time to go through each file line by line looking for any suspect code.
