Replace add to Cart With Graphic on Default Template

I need to replace the add to cart with a graphic on the right hand corner of the default template site wide.

 

(I was able to move the cart to the navigation by copying the code into header.tpl, I'm sure there is a better way)

 

The cart is controlled by hook_top, I have removed it from the default position via module manager in the back office so now I want to add the code to display the graphic in the space where it was.

 

Can anyone let me know how to do this without going near the core files?

I just noticed that adding the cart code to the place I wanted in header.tpl didnt work so I also need to know how to move the cart to the black nav bar with the phone number.

 

I'd like the cart to show in this block  <nav>{$smarty.capture.displayNav}</nav>
