[SOLVED] Can't get sales tax to show/update in cart, help

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I cannot get the sales tax to update and show in the cart
no matter what I try.

I have gone through the taxes wiki many times, the tax for the products
is set to 'No tax' (as instructed in the wiki).

The one thing I did change was in the back office >> payment >> taxes
section, where I deleted the state where I wanted to apply the taxes and then
I re-added it.

Could that have screwed it up?

I've been trying to figure this out all day. Any help would be appreciated. :)

I'm having the same exact issue with v1.2.5.0 - My entire website is stock, and I've assigned taxes to just Massachusetts for 6.25% and set all of my products in my catelogue to "No Tax"...Created a fake user from MA USA and tried to buy a product and it is NEVER applying the taxes to MA (unless of course I go into each of my 20,000 products and set each one to my rule "MA Tax") X_X

Any help would be appreciated all...

Frustrating isn't it?

Hopefully we'll get an answer soon. If not, I'm going to hire someone to fix this.

Let's keep each other posted on this!

BTW...I'm using 1.2.5 also.

Sounds good man. I have very little money to invest in this as right now it's just a hobby and I'm not sure if I'll even keep my web shop (first store ever)....

In the mean time, please check out this link as it seems highly related to us... http://www.prestashop.com/forums/viewthread/46742/configuring___using_prestashop/tax_issues/

I just posted there as well after hours of hunting, seems like another similar issue. Rylersbud seems very helpful and helped me with another matter recently, but it seems that his solution in that other thread (while it would definitely work), doesn't seem like the way that Prestashop is SUPPOSED to function...

Rylers solution would ruin the purpose of my store as right now I have it automatically updating products (20,000) every day into my store... I cant go into the database each and every day and constantly add my custom tax ID into the tax tables... something is just plain wrong with 1.2.5.0 I think. I'd LOVE for someone else to come aruond and try to help us out...

Perhaps v1.3 fixed this.. Im going to test it out soon I think, I just dont want to use a beta as a live shop.

Please do stay in touch and good luck to both of us ;p

QUICK UPDATE::: Just an FYI... I've tested this same scenario with the Prestashop.com Demo server (v.1.3.1 beta) and the US State tax functions seem to be working fine (the way they SHOULD be working with all products set to "No Tax" and the individual US state tax rules applying when the registered user logs in and lives in one of the states to which tax should apply)... This seems to be a v1.2.5.0 problem. X_x - Please help us fix this final "stable" version! I'm not a fan of running a live site using a beta product =)

Thanks for any and all help or insight everyone -

enigma,

Good work! Yeah, it looks like it may be bug in the stable version.

I don't want to use a beta version either so hopefully the PS team or someone
else can step up and help us with a fix.

I'm sure we're not the only ones with this issue! :)

Yeah it's pretty sad in my oppinion this thread isn't/hasn't got any attention yet. With "50,000 members" (unless theyre all in other languages on the forum), it's very hard for me to understand why a tax issue like this would affect just you and me for US State tax related matters (or probably any other tax setup with states of other countries involved..)

Again, I don't want to bash Prestashop, it's free and I love its zippy-ness compared to where I'm coming from (Magento), but tax is a MAJOR issue for any store to function properly, and its a core functionality even though Ive heard other users in other threads mention that presta mods have called it only a basic 'feature' before.

I guess you and I could blame our server environments...but then to try to throw out that variable, I also took my stock install of v1.2.5.0 and moved it to another server (completely different hosting with a lot of differences in OS/environment) and the same tax issue occurs...not to mention the rest of my prestashop script is still running great...

Do you and I share any other similar variables that others aren't using? Have you installed any modules at any point, a custom template? At best I had to install (and of since have uninstalled), a basic export-products module, and I've tried out EjectCores community version of their cool FilterSearch Pro module (but again have since uninstalled....).

After reading through many threads on other matters and questions I've had with customizing Prestashop, and comparing code of users running v1.2.5 from a few months ago (based on their posts), with the scripts in MY download of v.1.2.5 from the March 1st 2010...SOME SCRIPTS ARE DIFFERENT! [And no, I haven't installed ANY custom scripts/modules/or modified my code or anything else yet... I can't possibly go back and hunt them down again but trust me, it seems like someone from the Prestashop development team has made little changes here and there to the "latest" v1.2.5 stable.] It makes me wonder if perhaps some "new change" affected our tax functionality for US States.

I feel compelled to try out v1.3.1 beta... at least its not alpha anymore =p - The BIG headache is if I go and upgrade to v1.3.1 beta...I noticed some things like "exclude tax" from displaying in the price dont seem to be available yet as its not final, or have been taken away from the new build for good...or maybe I just have to look harder on that one...

The BIGGER headache is once I upgrade to v1.3.1 beta, I'll have no idea whatsoever if all of the cool addons that I've been planning to use with v1.2.5.0 will even function on v1.3.1 beta...

This is a huge run around and standstill due to tax not working for us using the state setup.

I wish I could invest some money to have a developer look at it, most I'd throw at it is $25 bucks because it SHOULD be something simple thats not linking the tax functions properly any longer...I'm sure at some point it was working lol.

I've gotta figure something out within the next few days though, as my investor and one of my distributors may drop me if I dont get things setup as promised...

Someone please help!

ANOTHER QUICK UPDATE:::

More searching through the forum yielded the following post from Karin.... perhaps this is the problem you and I have K? Karin says to delete all cookies and it will fix state tax related problems...

http://www.prestashop.com/forums/viewthread/34725/configuring___using_prestashop/solved_taxes_problem_yet_again/

If this fixes it for you and me (and I'm going to try it right now...), then Prestashop needs to kill its cookies after every session....(or offer the option for the site administrator to toggle it on/off)

Enigma,

I'm using a stock install of 1.2.5

I'm in touch with a developer that has done alot of work for me on another project.

This will be the first thing I have him look at. I will do my absolute best to have him
pass on the EXACT changes he (will) make that fixes this issue and then pass it on
to you so you don't have to spend any $.

Hopefully, I can have him working on this in the next day or two.

I'll keep you posted. :)

Ken, that is very kind of you ;p - If my $25 will help though, I'll be willing to throw it in your direction to see this through (however I know developers can charge $60 an HOUR haha).

I'm really, REALLY hoping your developer can get this straightened out for us though, the code MUST be there in v1.2.5.0 somewhere, and at some point whoever modified a script in the final version like I mentioned above...obviously hosed the tax zone detection.... If its NOT the script and instead something caused by us...I'll sure be red faced after all this typing lol.

If your developer doesnt mind you passing on his info to me via PM or email for my own future projects (if I ever have any), that'd also be appreciated =D

I will certainly look forward to hearing back from you very soon, and before my own deadline runs out and my distributor potentially drops me due to a bad deadline I just might ACTUALLY cry.

I hope that I dont get too impatient and upgrade to v1.3.1 beta and then get disspointed by the lack of add-on/template/module support for the newer version ;p

Thanks again and take care! - Dave

Hey guys,

I noticed your posting to my question about this issue. Unfortunately I found nothing to resolve it else I would've posted it. I haven't been thinking about it at all since I'm on another project now. I hope you figure it out, and post it for everyone else who has it.

Hey Karin, this feels good to read that for once a group of people (us) are being pro-active to try to get an issue fixed and not ignoring it or just using a different shopping cart entirely after giving up haha.

I'm really relying on Ken's developer at this point to sort this out...if that doesn't happen (which I'm sure it WILL work out though), I'll be a little lost as I dont want to give up on Prestashop for such a silly (yet BIG) issue.

I've gotta point out again though, after Presta announced over 50,000 new members, its rediculous there isn't more discussion about this problem...and that there's one-off posts going back for months now with this issue (and no responses) haha.

Thanks again all, lets keep our fingers crossed and possibly wallets open (open-source, get it?! lol j/k)

PS - I dont wanna give up and reinstall 1.2.5 like THESE folks did... (ANOTHER same issue)

Hi Karin,

Stay tuned because I'm going to sort this out. PS is too good of software to abandon because of an issue like this. Every software has their bugs, whether some developers care to admit it or not.

Hopefully have a fix for this quickly!

Ken my friend... please point your developer to this article/bug tracker here... SUPPOSEDLY in v1.2.4 this bug was reported and supposed to be fixed for v1.2.5...(obviously, it doesn't look like the guy fixed it in 1.2.5....)

I'll admit I did delete all 3 default tax "VATs" that came with the default install and made my own "MA Tax"...and once you go to the link below, if you scroll down it looks like I dev "found the bug" and "posted the fix"... I'm assuming this is a SQL query and I'm going to try it now , hopefully it doesn't destroy my install lol....

Hi tonito!

Thank you for this bug report.
I just fixed the bug.

The problem was that the tax deletion did not delete the association between a state and this tax.
Awaiting the next release, the simple following query will clean those associations:
DELETE FROM `ps_tax_state` WHERE `id_tax` NOT IN (SELECT `id_tax` FROM `ps_tax`)

OMFG! =) That fixed it! I think we saved us some time and money folks!

Go into your cPanel (if thats what you use), go into phpMyAdmin... go into your Prestashop Database...Like on the Query tab.... paste the following:

DELETE FROM `ps_tax_state` WHERE `id_tax` NOT IN (SELECT `id_tax` FROM `ps_tax`)

Click on the [Go] button. And it fixed it for me!!!! =)

I'm extremely happy to have been able to fix this. Thank you all for your time involved.

Take care and plz post back if you have any questions. - Dave/enigma

Hey again Ken just saw your response before I tried the SQL command/query...

Good question if it was attempted to be fixed/resolved in v1.3.1... Last night when I tried it on the prestashop.com's test/demo server...I DID only rename the VAT tax this time to "MA Tax" and deleted the other two VATs... I didn't actually try to delete every tax entry and create a brand new one...(I should have to be thorough but if it also failed I probably would have given up so I was happy just ot see 1.3.1 beta worked...)

So perhaps we should attempt to break it on the demo server by deleting ALL tax types that are in there from the default install (the 3 VATs) and create a new tax type to see if it STILL does stops the tax from calculating...At least now we should have a fix as I dont think they changed ay of these table names in v1.3.1 even if they didnt fix it yet. Maybe breaking the demo until the refresh will grab someone attention too? lol =p

Hey Ken- Theres lots of different OS's out there now as well as versions I think for phpMyAdmin but they're all basically the same... first make sure you click within your Prestashop database... You'll know if your in there because you'll likely see all of the prestashop tables like "ps_contacts" etc... every starts with "ps_"...

Then click on the Query tab... then, at least in my own phpMyAdmin... in the bottom right area of my browser window within the query page...there is a large white box where you can type/paste into...the box has a title directly above it saying... "SQL query on database dbusername_store: "

Within the box paste the following:

DELETE FROM `ps_tax_state` WHERE `id_tax` NOT IN (SELECT `id_tax` FROM `ps_tax`)

Click on the [Go] button.

At that point you should be all set. Good luck Ken! =)

Awesome! =) Please change the title of this thread to [sOLVED] so that others may finally see what we've done here, as the bug fix that I found was not easy to find or understand at first, as well as many others who have not bothered thoroughly figuring this out and documenting this like we have.

Have a great one Ken...PS..do you mind PM'ing or emailing me with your developers info in case I ever need him? hehe ;p

Take care everyone!

Hey guys,
Im so happy i found this, ive been racking my brains trying to figure out a solution. Is this a fix for 1.2.5 or for 1.3 im not sure. Also i recommend you change the title to US Tax Fix in 1.2.5 or 1.3
Cheers

update:
I tried this on version 1.2.5 when i ran the script, it said 0 rows were effected. There is no change on the site, the taxes are still not being calculated.

My set up is Tax enabled with Nj state tax and the products have no tax selected.
