Disable or hide slider controls on mobile views (1.6)

I want to hide the slider directional controls when the slider is viewed on mobile devices.  I succeeded in hiding them in desktop view (using 'display: none' in the css and 'controls: false' in various javascript files. Seems to work fine until I view on phone - then the default large left/right controls appear.  I'm thinking I missed one key location to comment out those controls?
