Multistore -- newly created store's URL returns 404 page

I have completed the steps described in the docs, as far as setting up a physical URL for a new store.

 

The problem now is that the new path is not automatically created in my PrestaShop directory, hence the 404 problem when I try to access the URL. The docs seem to imply that whatever files are necessary, they are generated automatically by the back office. Do I have to create the directory and copy the necessary files manually instead?
