Attributes, no impact on stock - How? Continued

Recommended Posts

I've been trying to reply to this old thread:

https://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/271137-attributes-no-impact-on-stock-how/

But each time it won't allow it and I get sent to prestashop home page. If a mod wants to attach this post to that thread, please do.

This thread was about how there are often products which are made up of a mix of component parts. In such cases selling one item can impact the stock of the whole.

Here's my input and suggestion to Prestashop Devs:

-----------

I really think this could be sorted out (at least for simple cases).

There could be an option to share a common stock pool among attributes.

Example:

Customer sells poles in 2 or 3 sections.

He has 6 sections in stock. If someone buys a 2 section pole, there could be an option to reduce stock by the attribute number (i.e. 2) OR reduce stock by the largest attribute number (i.e. 3).

This would cover a good number of use cases.

In my case it would be the latter, as buying a 2 section pole does not mean I'm able to make up two more 2's from the remaining 4 sections, as they fit together differently; not all sections are the same. However, if they were, this simple remedy would at least fix both cases, and is simple to understand and probably to impliment as well.

Sure, there are going to be very complex cases and you can't please all the people ...

Anyway just a suggestion, as I've bumped fairly and squarely into this problem. The only way round it for me it to buy in more, and adjust the stock depending on what sells. But when stock runs low I'll bump into the same issue. Probably have to create a custom tab and have the customer request or contact and that is not very professional.

Hopefully someone can pass on this simple suggestion and I'm sure that would remedy a good number of attribute/quantity issues.

Cheers,

CP.
