Combination products aren't showing up in search when using reference number.

We've added over a thousand products to our store over the last couple of years which use combinations.

However today we noticed that a search for the reference number for the individual combinations of these items does not produce any results. 

Each product has a Name such as SPM-1xx-xxx and the combination will produce a reference like SPM-123-456.

A search for the SPM-1xx-xxx finds the page in both the site and on Google but SPM-123-456 produces nothing. 

When we first put combinations on, many versions ago, we thoroughly tested this and it worked. I noticed there were some support questions about this exact problem on here but most date back a few years.

We use v.1.6.0.1.

I just checked on a live store, the combination reference is implemented to produce results by default. So the issue shouldn't be there.

 

What you might need to do is to reindex all products, if you haven't done that or haven't setup a cronjob to do this regularly. You will find it in the backend preferences under "Search".
