give client a reference field in order progress v1.6.1.1

HI guys,

 

is there any possibility a client can enter his own reference number during an order?

now we have a large text field (ps_message) but that field is not quit suitable since too long.

 

but the purpose is that client have during the end order progress a special field of max 50 characters where they can fill in their orderreference.

onces the invoice is made they will see their reference also and also we will pass with their shipment their orderreference.

 

any way to do this?
