[SOLVED] SEO Friendly URLs

There is no need for a module. Friendly URLs are built in to Prestashop. Go to the Preferences tab and change "Friendly URL" to "Yes". Upload an empty .htaccess file to the root directory of Prestashop on your server. If a .htaccess file already exists on your server, rename it to .htaccess.old. Then go to Tools > Generators, then click the "Generate .htaccess file" button. Prestashop will then write the friendly URL rewrite rules to the .htaccess file. If necessary, open up the .htaccess file and compare it to .htaccess.old. Copy over anything in .htaccess.old that is missing in the .htaccess file.

I have the same problem. And, when I open any product page, my Categories module (that which comes with original prestashop installation), dissappear. Module is there, but there isn't any category in this block. On homepage categories in this block is visible.

There is probably a Javascript error on your product page that is causing the categories to disappear. You should click the "Done, with errors" icon in the bottom-left corner in IE and post the error message here.

The problem was solved.

The process of getting SEO friendly urls has a protocol.

1. You have to upload a blank .htaccess file into your prestashop root dir.
2. You have to enable SEO friendly urls in your preferences tab.
3. Then you have to generate a .htaccess in tools in generators.
4. Then, you need to reinstall all modules (in many cases, it's only featured home products and categories)
5. Now, you can start adding your content.

I think this will help others.. It helped me.

I try everything until i came here to have image back after friendlu url activation.
I did use the solution of rename .htaccess to .htaccess_old in my public html(where my prestashop is install)
then upload a blank .htaccess , activate the friendly url and generate the .htaccess from tools-generate in prestashop panel !
