Stripe Official vs. Stripe Reloaded

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have any information or feedback on the Strip Official module vs. the Stripe Reloaded module? The Reloaded module is significantly cheaper but I can't find anything comparing the two or what I might be losing or gaining by using the Reloaded module vs. the official. I wrote to the developer of the Reloaded module asking him what the differences are and he said he had no idea (which I find strange and a possible cause for concern).

I didn't say "I have no clue".

You're misquoting me, but semantics aside if you do have a "clue" or an "idea" or any knowledge whatsoever of how your product is different from the Stripe Official module I would love to hear it. I'm trying to make an informed purchasing decision. If anyone can help I would deeply appreciate it.

I hope you are not asking me to purchase their $170 module, just so I could compare their features for you?

We offer a demo of our product, and the features of our module are pretty well defined, and you can certainly ask questions if you are uncertain about how our module works.

However as for comparing their module to our module, not something I can do for you.

I'm asking if you (or anyone else) can compare your product with your direct competitor's so I am make an informed buying decision. Since you've made it abundantly clear you cannot (and apparently feel no shame in this), I don't understand why you are replying in this thread.

The only demo I can find for your module is the front-end demo, which, from the perspective of a shop owner, is virtually useless.

I replied because you misquoted me, and I wanted to correct your misquote.

I suspect you are not going to find anyone on the forums that have purchased both of these modules, and will provide a comparison between them both.  So again, I have replied to let you know you can contact me to ask questions about our module.  I don't intend to purchase the "official" module just to provide a comparison of features.  The features of both modules are stated on their product pages, so you should be able to assess this yourself.

Actually, 90% of the functionality of a payment module is FRONT END, and any merchant and business owner should want to understand the customers experience.  Again, if you have questions about the back end functionality, feel free to ask

Hi

I personally did not use any of  those modules, so that would not replay to your question.

But from descriptions it is really similar. What I can say you will for certain get working module

from Bellini, and you will get experience, expertise and good customer service. That I can say from

talking with different people and also I do not remember any issues with any of his modules on forum.

So it should not concern you that module is more affordable.

Hi,

I have and use Bellini13 Stripe Reloaded module.

Works fine, does the job, well priced and great support + updates.

Only issue I have had with module is when you upgrade prestashop via 1 click upgrade you have to reset stripe reloaded module to enable hooks again - but I feel this is a prestashop upgrade issue and easily fixed.

Haven't tried the official module but most official modules I have tried don't have regular updates or support and $$$$.

I did not misquote you. I did not quote you at all. At no point in my original post did I use quotation marks indicating I was making a direct quote in regards to something you said. Ironically you jumped into this thread and the first thing you did was misquote me.

If I was selling a product like yours the FIRST thing I would do is look at my direct competitors' products so I could learn how to best market my product and be able to provide accurate pre-sales information to potential customers, and see where my strengths and weaknesses are so I could improve my product's features and functionality. From your statement I gather you don't care about this or even feel it's is your responsibility to know this stuff, which, as a potential customer, I find troubling.

Finally some helpful information. Thank you, that's exactly how I feel and why I'm trying to research this. I've already been burned once by a module that looked like it would do exactly what I wanted based on this feature list, but then when I purchased it I discovered it had flaws that made it unusable. I'm trying to avoid that again. It's particularly critical in this case since this module will be responsible for collecting money from my customers.

Again, if you have questions about the back end functionality, feel free to ask

In this screen shot: http://medias2.prestastore.com/667952-pbig/official-stripe-for-prestashop.jpg the official module appears to have a transaction list for processed payments. Does your module offer this? I can't tell by the screen shots.

Actually you did misquote me.  It does not need to be in quotes to be "quoted".  As I said earlier... I did not say "I had no idea".  This is misquoting me, and as I said before, I replied to correct you.  And I am glad you caught my misquote, trust me, it was not an accident.

Our module does not have this feature.

  • 3 weeks later...

Hello,

I was (happily) using an open source Stripe module for testing (which can be found on GitHub), but then I told my customer to buy the official module from PrestaShop.

All I can tell you is : don't buy it !!!

- The module does not use the Stripe.js library

- The module posts the credit card data in clear to the backend server

- The JS code of the module is a joke : for example it uses "else if", which does not exist in JavaScript

- The function that is intended to check if the credit card number is OK just doesn't work, you can even send the form with an empty card number.

I can't believe I made my customer pay 200+ bucks for that... Now I want to ask a refund to PrestaShop but I know it will be a nightmare.

I think this is a shame.

I'm sorry to hear you had these issues with the official module, that really is a shame for such an expensive official module to function like that.  But unfortunately this is what we have come to expect from their developed modules

Hi @mexique1,

I've managed to gather some informations about your concern, straight from the developpers of this module.

Regarding the credit card data posted in clear, the addon has a visual warning requiring a SSL certificate (see attached pic) : you need to have one to use this addon.

post-1117607-0-03101100-1445854517_thumb.png

The developpers are OK with you in some extent regarding "else if code" ; however they pointed me to this stack overflow discussion http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4005614/elseif-syntax-in-javascript and they stressed it doesn't change anything .

And finaly, the first credit card check is a dummy check: the Strip API is in charge of verifying the card number, the first check is to not overflow it.

The developpers are still checking this addon in order to improve, specificaly adding stripe.js, it and I hope I've answered all of your concerns.

Regards,

Hello Sylvain.

I was wrong about the else if, it actually works, I apologize.

However the other concerns are true.

Unless you are PCI compliant, you shouldn't post the credit card data to your own server. Never.

Also, why post invalid data, while it can be verified on the client side, with the library provided by Stripe?

I have contacted the Addons team more than a week ago to fix this module, or be refunded, but I had no answer.

I can fix this module, provided you refund me.

Could you please tell the developers to contact me?
