Bulk actions don't work for me

I have recently installed Prestashop 1.6.1 on a ReadyNAS.  It took a couple tries, but everything seems to be working.  Well, everything except all bulk actions.  I can manually check boxes or use the check all function, but when I try to bulk disable, uninstall, whatever, nothing happens.

 

This being a pretty specialized version of the Debian distro, maybe it's just missing something that lets it work.  What can a check out to see what the issue is.  Doing things like disabling taxes in all states except mine is a real PITA.
