An error occurred while copying image: thickbox_default

I'm running 1.6.0.14 and I'm having the most difficult time trying to upload product images.

 

I receive the following error when I attempt to upload a product image...

"An error occurred while copying image: thickbox_default"

 

When I go to preferences>images and turn off thickbox_default from product images, I get another error...

"An error occurred while copying image: small_default"

 

So I continue to turn off all of those from product images and I can finally upload without error; however, the image doesn't show anywhere.

 

My permissions seem correct at 755, anyone have any ideas?
