Importing product images by URL

Hi,

 

I'm making simple module which is importing products to database from XML. I managed to import products, categories and features but the problem is I have to import images and they are not stored localy but on external server. The databse has to be updated daily so i can't simply download them all and use built in functions. There are a lot of images but they are not big, rather miniatures, so is there any possibility to 'cheat' prestashop and force it to use external urls as miniatures or You have any other ideas? I'm new to prestashop (I'm working with it for about 12 days) and I have read quite a bit of forum and I haven't found any answer.
