SOLVED - Product Attributes not Showing in Combinations

I have about 30 or so attributes I had set up before updating to 1.6.1.  I hadn't needed to add any attributes until now.  When I add an attribute is saved as it should be but is not accessible in products>combinations or combinations generator.  The new attributes are showing in the database.  I tried re-uploading admin template files to no avail.  Any ideas of what is going on here, or where I can look for a quick fix?
