Upgrade from 1.3 to 1.4 and eventually 1.5,1.6

Hello, 

 

I am currently using a store with 1.3.7.0 I am hoping to change this to 1.4 then auto update to 1.5 and 1.6 but i have run in to some issues i could use a hand with.

 

i have taken a backup of my store FTP files and database with PHPmyadmin, i have used this to create a clone store i can test with on another folder called test, this new store is an exact replica of the old one but is linked to a new database (via the settings.ini file) also called test so any modifications i make will not effect my live store. 

 

i have tried to manually update this a few times and i just don't seem to get anywhere, currently i have added 1.4 to this new clone store but when i go to domainname/test/install it just says "This application need you to activate Javascript to correctly work."

 

I have check the file permissions of install and js folders are set to 775 and i still have this issue. 

 

dose anyone have a definitive guide i can follow as at the moment it would really help me get this fixed.
