uddhava
I have imported 2 articles using the import tool.Since there is no field/column available for the friendly url, it is generated by PS i presume. Is there anybody who can confirm that the friendly urls are automagically generated during import?(an annoying feature, to say the least). tomerg3
if you don't specify one, the product name is used as default.
uddhava
Yeah, when you have a complicated product name, then the friendly url is also quite strange. For example a product name like this : Bhagavad-gita - Dutch will get a friendly url like this : bhagavad-gita---dutchLooks like every "space" is replaced with a "-".I think seo is such an important topic that i need to specify the url myself. The database does have a friendly url column, only the import code is not wirtten yet, at least for products...
tomerg3
There is no need to specify each friendly URL, it really wont make much of a difference, unless your product names are totally unrelated to the shop
uddhava
If i read correclty you are saying that the friendly urls do not make much of a difference in the whole SEO Story ?Does the SEO of a product not help in the google rating? tomerg3
No, i may have not explained it correctly, that sometimes happens, especially when typing from bed.I was referring to the --- you mentioned.Having keywords in the URL is a good thing, but probably more important (and the level of impotance changes) is having a unique static URL for each page (the friendly URL).Presashop does a great job at this, by including the category name and product name in the URL, so there really is no need to manually enter a friendly URL for each product. uddhava
ahaaa, now i understand.Yes, the extra --- is easily fixed. I just do not use - in the product name for now.So this thread is solved :-)
uddhava
To add something. The import tool (v1.3.0.1) is able to import friendly urls for products. Only the code is not yet made available, or visible when doing an import. There is a bug reported for that: http://www.prestashop.com/bug_tracker/view/3501/
