Move Search Cart and Menu - image problems ?

Greetings,

 

I am working on the website, and am in need of some assistance.

 

I would like to move the menu next to the logo, make that whole "box" black.  then move search and cart into the header as attached in the picture below.  Everything is default installs.  I have read other posts but not quite sure which apply to what im doing and not.  

 

Also i am having a problem with some images.  For instance when loading off my mobile phone, category pictures are either half loaded, distroted, and just a black white space and people dont realize to keep scrolling.  Any ideas?

 

Is there a way to make the imageslider responisve (depending on the scree size i either see the whole image vertically, 1/3, 1/2 etc...)
