How Prestashop compares to CS-Cart?

Recommended Posts

I wish to know how Prestashop compares to CS-Cart.

Has anyone tried CS-Cart before and switched to Prestashop or other carts?

I am down to Prestashop and CS-Cart.

Please express your experience and opinion. I like Prestashop but not enough choice of theme where as CS-Cart comes with 40+ themes standard.

One big problem in CS-Cart is that the order process is very undeveloped and keeps going in loop and produces multiple orders if you not careful if payment fails. Any other problems in CS-Cart i should be aware of?

CS-Cart will ask you to pay first USD 285, then you will give all your paswords, they will install and give you back a limited access to your boutique. If ever you want to change something (design/modules/etc..) ... you'll pay.

For me it looks like a booby trap.

See attached what I found in their conditions.

Thank you for the CS-Cart fine print, I did realise they charge for customisation, but that is I guess their business practice as it is not free compared to Prestashop which is OS.

Can you tell me what you like about Prestashop? What is their development like on issues like attributes, etc. They don't seem to listen? I would like this functionality.

Also, is Prestashop a stable product for using with 1000+ products online?

Sarah - how long you been using the product now?

I am experimenting with cs-cart now, when you pay the license fee they give you all source files to mod if you want, there is no limited access once you pay the money.

My experience is that the cs-cart software is a lot smoother in application and use which is what you should expect when paying for it. It is a lot harder to template with limited availability to buy skins, however ther is about 20 to choose from.

There are commercial mods available to buy and easy to install, although there are a load of freebes with the package, there is a nice api link in to run realtime updates from suppliers via cron.

I ported my prestashop straight into it without too much problems in about 5 minutes.

My prestastore is at http://www.mpc-direct.com and the cs-cart demo is at http://www.mpc-direct.com/store

There is not much difference between what each one can do.

Good response, thanks.

So in the back office and coding you are saying it's pretty similar.

Can you tell me what you think of the checkout and ordering process. I think Prestashop seems to be a bit better and streamlined where as CS-Cart has a problem with the duplication of orders when yoour payment fails. That is something I am trialling now, but compare that to Prestashop it is more simple in Prestashop as far as checkout process goes.

The other postivie with CS-Cart is that is 40+ templates(skin). I wouldn't mind seeing more in Prestashop, but how hard is it to code and do your own thing which I can see you seem to have done.

Degsey - Would you mind sharing your Prestashop theme? I would really appreciate that.

Now, I have found more free Prestashop theme and trailing it. My one concern is with all these free theme & modules is security and safety as its in the public domain.

Looks like Prestashop is easy to manage and good for small and simple online shopping but not for big complex solution with lots of variation.

The discounting and sale/promotion features are not as powerful as CS-Cart I think unless I am not using the correct functions.

Degsey,

Haven't made a decision yet. I am still looking more into CS-Cart. The shipping module and gateway is lacking in Prestashop for Australia?

CS-Cart seems to be seamless in this area.

So, have you made a decision to go with PS? Is that right.

Hi there

Thanks for the compliment about the website.

The module I am using is jcarousel module v1.0 and it is compatable with V1.2.5

Unfortunately it looks like that the link for the download is down, I can post a copy of it here but I do not know the legality of it as the contributor has taken down his links for his contributions.

I too am comparing PrestaShop to CS-Cart and X-Cart. I've read numerous forums from people who have been kicked out of X-Cart forums if you say something they don't like. Some have even claimed they lost their software license making the cart investment a total loss. I'm currently leaning on CS-Cart because they seem to have a very strong user/support base and everything seems to be included in the price. It seems virtually everyone is happy with them and they provide excellent support. PrestaShop looks very impressive and I would love to dive in, but feel I can't afford it. Yes the initial software is free, but by the time you add in the necessary modules (Sage gateway $329, FedEX $75, USPS $132, UPS $132, Free Shipping $99, SEO $197, Twitter $53, Facebook $40, professional template $140) the real cost is $1,057. That's a far cry from $285 for CS-Cart or $150 for X-Cart. I may like PrestaShop a little better but I just can't justify the cost at this point.

If interested I have a discounted X-cart license for sale. I also got some X-cart developed addons and a ready design if wanted. Just pm me if interested.

About ppl getting kicked out from the X-cart forum, it is probably because they don´t follow the rules there. You are not allowed to talk about other cart softwares or promote competing carts.
