purpose of favicon in themes?

Hi,

What is the purpose of having the favicon in either the default or a custom theme?

When you set the mail and favicon graphic in the BO and upload them from a theme folder it puts these graphics in the img folder of the root and not from each theme img folder. This means the same graphics are used for all themes.

The problem comes in when you update to a new version of the store and the root -> img folder is uploaded. This puts the default prestashop logo and favicon back into the shop.

I was thinking each theme could have it's own mail graphic and favicon. What am I missing?
