GD library Problem - Can not Install a few questions for clarification

Although zenCart installs easy, I am very pleased with the prestaShop's Client end opposed to zenCarts outdated client end. Even though its a bit of a trouble I think it is worth getting prestashop to run. But I need some expertise in installing this elegant cart.

My Problem: basically stems from
* GD library not found is the primary issue.

I am running a test server for developing a website on a local machine. Running XP-32bit platform.

My configurations as of now is:

- Apache 2.0.50 (Win32) on XP
- PHP 5.2.12
- MYSQL 5.1
- Integrated with FTP and with all ports set up correctly.



I have tried:

I have enabled the GD library extensions in the PHP, but yet it doesn't seem to recognize. (I'm not sure, but if I enabled the GD library it should be located in phhinfo() right? Just like how when I enabled the MYSQL extensions for PHP 5.2.12 the extensions would show up in the information page of PHP.


Been trying to get GD library to run, but haven't had much luck in about 2 days for now. So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!


A few questions:
1) Has anyone been able to get around this problem? if so would you please give me a detailed step guide?

2) I see the - PHP 5.2.1 (authentication is impossible) What is the authentication is impossible? Is it installing part?

3) If it doesn't work for PHP 5.2.12, Which versions of PHP does it work for? If you guys have it running, can you tell me your current working configurations? With some known bugs.

sudo apt-get install php5-gd

this in the command terminal will install the library
