home slider HTML / CSS resize images

Using GT Metrix we do get recommendation to resize images for home slider with the comment: " The following images are resized in HTML or CSS. Serving scaled images could save 549.3KiB (37% reduction). s resized in HTML or CSS from 778x446 to 627x359"..

 

We reduced images to the suggested size but than the don't fit neatly any more on the front page.

 

we experimented with module setting  ( max width ) to 778, no effect.

Checked settings in theme/homeslider/css, also 778.

 

 

Further checking GT Mextrix,  it shows all images are resized by HTML or CSS  ( see screen capture http://screencast.com/t/8OVg2F6bC  )

Can anybody tip how to resolve this ?

 

we are on Prestashop 1.6.11, using default theme
