Moonswolf
Hi, i'm on Prestashop 1.4.5.1 and i want upgrade to latest version. I'm trying with automatic update, but it gives me the "Error Unable to check md5 files" error. I tried to upload the zip file in download folder, and also the other solution in the latest folder with the latest prestashop files, but nothing changed...it's always the same error.. So i would ask you how could i upgrade? The website is in a subfloder, cause i would try the upgrade before to do it in the base prestashop website (the same of the subfolder). If is not possible, could you suggest a way to export products/categories/attached/attributes etc from 1.4.5.1 so to import into a fresh installation of PrestaShop? Thankyou for your suggest. Moonswolf
I've made as you told, but the same error is still here. Prestashop version 1.4.5.1 Module version: 1.4.7 Help...
Moonswolf
I decided to try the upgrade in my online store. I've still the "AutoUpgrade modulo v0.1" the upgrade base module...and it shows me the latest version..and maybe could works... But what do you suggest me? Could it be better to uninstall this and install the latest version? Or try directly with this version? (cause with this old version show the latest version of prestashop available). I'm afraid if i update with this old module if something goes wrong..... But i'm also afraid if unistalling this and installing the latest version of the module if it shows me the error above... What is your suggest with your experience? Thankyou.
El Patron
my experience says never upgrade production shop directly but a copy, then you can try various methods. I've upgraded several 1.4s (several), I always get some error but not your error, go figure. So if you are doing on a copy then you are free to try different methods, including finding code in autoupgrade module that can be 'commented' out to see if you can get further along. Personally I have found upgrading 1.4 to 1.4.11 first then upgrading again to latest release works best. use this search link to see what others have tried, maybe you find solution, if you do please tell us. https://www.google.es/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=prestashop%20upgrade%20error%20unable%20to%20check%20md5%20files
Moonswolf
Thankyou for your reply. I think that this error should due to an incorrect setting about the subfolder where i'm trying to upgrade. Cause if i try it on the defautl website, it don't show this error and is able to find the new version. I tried the update in local website, and it seems to works ok. but only version was the same of the original site, without products and others data. So, the only thing that i'm not sure, is if upgrade using the autoupgrade module old version (already present) or if i should unistall and delete this, and upgrade with the new version of that module (the 1-click Autoupgrade). Do you think that if i upgrade with the oldest module it should be dangerous? Or maybe if i install the last module version it should have conflict due to the old version of prestashop? (either if it is set as compatible from the author).

El Patron
below is the error code from latest autoupgrade modules/autoupgrade/AdminSelfUpgrade I can only guess, that the (youradmin folder)/autoupgrade does not have write permissions, sorry not much more help. gosh, I am old mainframe guy, who says C and Java is self documenting? if (textStatus == "timeout" && action == "download") { updateInfoStep("'.$this->l('Your server cannot download the file. Please upload it first by ftp in your admin/autoupgrade directory', 'AdminSelfUpgrade', true).'"); } else { // technical error : no translation needed $("#checkPrestaShopFilesVersion").html("<img src=\"../img/admin/warning.gif\" /> Error Unable to check md5 files"); }
Moonswolf
Thankyu for your answer I checked and tried to put all file and folders permission to 777 but nothing changed...i think it's a problem with subfloder settings...cause in the subfolder test prestashop i've this problem, but in the online store i've not this problem..and i've the oldest autoupgrade module.. El Patron
Thankyu for your answer I checked and tried to put all file and folders permission to 777 but nothing changed...i think it's a problem with subfloder settings...cause in the subfolder test prestashop i've this problem, but in the online store i've not this problem..and i've the oldest autoupgrade module.. for upgrades, lets say your production shop is root. then it's best to create a subdomain so it is also in root. for this issue, it may be how you created that subfolder, possibly it has improper group owner, i.e. your domain is not in group. This can happen possibly if you copied the files from prod to folder with sudo or hosting contorl panel...maybe...I just pulling this out of you know where....also many hosting now error on 'to high' of permission, i.e. 777, folders should be what you have in prod, typically 755 folders 644 files. holy

Moonswolf
Solved! This problem was due to an hosting permission problem. I contacted my hosting (Aruba) and wit a "File permission restore" the problem is solved and store upgraded Now only problem is that images have not been uploaded, and it can't save new images...but this is another thread
