PrestaShop Future - Why you will not use PS in 2 years

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Browsing I have found a very interesting post on what should be PrestaShop new year resolutions.

http://dh42.com/blog/prestashop-2015-resolutions/

It highlights what is wrong with PrestaShop development.

DH42 exactly said what was on my mind. I personally couldn't agree more regarding bugs and development road map. New versions of PS are unstable and each upgrade introduces significant risk that something brakes or functionality is missing.

I am posting on the forum because I am curious what other people in the community think about PS course...

So what do you think? :)

I agree too with the text.

From my opinion the upgrade should be much easier. There should be more bugfixes. I also can't understand how something can happen like the story with the analytics module. Since weeks this module is so buggy. While the old Version worked much better.

The new features should be concentrated on core ecommerce features. I am for example disappointed about blocklayerdnavigation. It's still not possible to give more then 1 value to an attribute. You can't really use the filter with numbers. Or I don't why prestashop doesn't give an option like the universal payment module. Or why is not possible to use numbers for order id than this strange letter stuff. I bought a module for this, which does a fine job, but this are core features from my opinion.

I don't care for features like blog, newsletter and also theme stuff. When I read that prestashop should have a live chat I could cry. This are features where modules are made for.

I more than agree.

In fact i allready looking for another shoping solution.

But since 10 years working with open source (joomla, wp, now presta...) its all the same. Maybe Presta is diferent (i hope) and listen to comunity. All other are :my way or highway.

I couldn't agre more with you, but let's face it: Prestashop is still the best solution in e-commerce for our needs.

I've been thinking in other e-commerce solutions for a while, but the more I read and compare prestashop features against other platforms such as Magento, OpenCart, WooCommerce, etc. the more I realize that Prestashop is the way to go.

Yes, Prestashop Official Team should focus on core e-commerce features, while 3rd. Party developers should bring us awesome extra-functionality with modules.

Just try another things like magento opencart etc and you see the huge difference.

And why this people are still on 1.4 while 1.5 is better and there is more modules for 1.5?

They are on 1.4 because they cannot afford to upgrade. They know that upgrade is high risk - a lot of testing is required and still you can miss something and your site breaks causing you loss of orders & revenue. Or they business is so weak that it is not worth the effort / money to upgrade, what again proves my point that upgrade is too expensive adventure :P

I agree that PS may be still valid option for now, but looking into future this may change. Especially when you look at bigger shops. Magento already left behind PS when it comes to bigger players (look for stats). And bigger players are the ones with money... Having money Magento can easily adjust its offer to cater also smaller business who are traditionally a userbase of PS. In my country few agencies targeting serious customers abandoned PS for Magento. This process may continue.

I hope that competition  will bring better solutions for us :)

....

From one side you have reason, but mos of clients just ask why i need to upgrade? Because i can?

But some peoples ask:

Is it so much new necessary features in new version?

Is it run faster?

So why i need to pay more for almost nothing?

Ans they stay in old 1.4 or 1.5

Because the don't need to upgrade. Because is enough and all working just fine.

LOL! Prestashop is a good Open Source Project - no doubt about it... But that doesn't mean its perfect and doesn't need to be improved. Before we were on Opencart. All in all Prestashop is better, but also Opencart had it advantages.
