Images taking too much space

Hi,

 

I have limited space on server (who doesn't) and I can see that the images are consuming most of the space.

I know that Prestashop is generating a lot of thumbnails of different sizes out of the original uploaded image, but whay does it keep the original image as well?

 

Is there a way to get rid of it to save space?

For example, for the product 100 I have the next images and I don't think I need the last one.

 

100-cart_default.jpg

100-home_default.jpg

100-large_default.jpg

100-medium_default.jpg

100-small_default.jpg

100-thickbox_default.jpg

100.jpg

 

What do you think?

Is there another way to save space on the images.

original image must be stored because prestashop uses this original image to generate thumbnails.

I would rather store them on a free website (like Picasa) then to let them consume half of my paid storage space.

 

What happens if I just delete them?

Is there a way to delete them automatically?

Yes,

it must be there

just imagine that in the future you will change template, or theme that you use will be updated with new image sizes etc.

you will not be able to regenerate thumbnails anymore...

 

the same with other stuff like modules that uses original images etc.
