How can my customers track the orders?

After my customers place the orders, how can they track the status of the orders? I have looked all over the my account page, I can not find anywhere shows the status of the order. Can somebody please tell me where I can find it? And in the back office, how can I enter the status of the order so that my customers can see? Do we have a module that will show the FedEx tracking status within the site?
