Difficulty setting up product attributes

Recommended Posts

Hello,  it's my first post and hopefully Prestashop will work out.

I'm pretty much a novice at programming, I managed to set up a zen cart shopping cart 6ish years ago for my site and since I'm moving hosts, I figured I'd redo it all.

I've spent the past month playing with Opencart and after spending $350 on modules, many of which were buggy and support from their developpers being non existant (6/11 spitting out errors, 1 was abandoned by its developper 2 weeks after purchase, 1 developper fixed some code for his module on my test site and ended up breaking another module), I'm abandoning it and starting with Prestashop.

Here's hoping the experience goes better!

Onto the show...

I'm trying to set up attribute or options for products and can't get it to behave the way I want.

Current cart item: http://www.northfur.ca/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=83_84&products_id=315

What I'm working on: http://tor-eh10.fullhost.com/~northfur/index.php?id_product=8&controller=product

I'm trying to set up the text attribute in Prestashop to behave like what I have in zencart for the "Custom painting" part.

It's not a required field to complete a purchase, however I don't want to have customers to have to  scroll to the bottom of the page to enter text in presta shop, it'd be much easier to enter it along with the other attributes on the right bar. Also since the text at the bottom of the page is not tied into the product combinations, I don't want customers to enter text and not select the custom painting option since it'll turn into a hassle to try and bill customers for the extra option.

So how can I fix behaviour?

Is there a module that can add text area attributes to items and tie them into the combinations?

Thanks for any help!

*edit:  I've been reading and browsing all day and havn't been able to find anything to help with my above problem.  I've sorted out all my other needs for PrestaShop, have about $600 of modules lined up to purchase, but I won't make the plunge until I get this critical part resolved.
