Why is the phone field not required on new customer registrations? It use to be.

My store owners need to have a phone number for a customer so it should be required so the store owner can contact the customer if necessary.

Can you tell me how to correct this to make the phone number a required field or are you going to make it required again?

I don't know, but in the time it took you to create this thread and complain twice, you could have found out how to make it a required field again.

tomerg3 maybe you should resign from being a moderator if you cannot be helpful.

I've helped here by organizing the docs, putting in bug reports, and features especially when things were friendlier with the moderators but it seems things have come to a halt with all the bug reports listed for a long time and not fixed.

I shouldn't have to change anything to have a required field when it was always that way until lately. Having a sound reason would be nice but maybe you don't know how it use to be or the reason to remove the required phone field.

Most merchants asked us to make this optional.

You can make it mandatory relatively easily by editing the class Customer.php and controller customer.php.

Perhaps we will one day render the control of mandatory fields in the Back-office, but it is quite "heavy" in terms of performance.

Tomerg3 was being helpful in his first post, as he directed you to use the search, as this question has been asked a few times already.

Moderators are here to moderate, being helpful isnt exactly part of the job.

His second post was uncalled for. I am not complaining. I am trying to find out the reason why it was removed which is what Bruno answered. I have clients that ask these types of questions and I try to be as helpful as I can.

Bruno, I tried to edit the class Customer.php but could not find the controller customer.php file. If there is an easier way other than the posted url in this thread please post more details. I have it working via the posted url using the address.tpl and authentication.tpl and classes/Address.php files.
