Naldinho
For most of my shipping I use the Fedex module that gets live quotes. That works fine and I'd like to continue to use it. In addition I would also like to offer the option of choosing a freight shipper that we use orders over a certain weight. Our freight shipper does not an API or any way to get live quotes so my plan was to manually enter prices for three weight ranges for major cities. Problems I am having 1) After reading about zones it doesn't appear that I can define shipping zones by the city. 2) This would be a lot of data entry just for major cities -- ideally I'd want orders from other locations to default to the rate for the closest major city. The freight shipper is very inexpensive compared to FedEx and it is only an option for large orders so I just have to get rough numbers for areas. Is there any easy way to do this? My second option would be to have some kind of notice for orders over a certain weight. This represents a tiny percentage of orders so they could be done manually but I would prefer a automated solution. ------------ As a related question I would also like to offer options that are specific only to customers in the same city and surrounding area. Is this possible?
Dh42
Can you use zip or postal codes instead of cities?
Naldinho
Certainly. It is manual data entry so just a matter of matching Postal Code / Zip to the city and using those instead. Hopefully wildcards would be an option otherwise the data entry required would skyrocket.
Dh42
You need this module then, http://www.presto-changeo.com/en/shipping-modules/83-localized-shipping.html You can use wildcards with it as well. I have used it on several shops doing what you are looking for.
