Need to customize new products slider on homepage

Hello,

 

I need some help customizing the new products slider on the homepage of my site (the module came with a commercial template - it is not the default Prestashop New Products module). Instead of automatically showing the most recent products uploaded, I would like it to pull from a category called "New Products".

 

Also, I would like to hide this category in the categories block. 

 

I could probably eventually figure out how to do this on my own, but time is of the essence and I need some professional help.
